Trump responds to Mueller findings: 'Complete and Total EXONERATION. KEEP AMERICA GREAT!'

President Donald Trump began his victory lap over special counsel Robert Mueller’s findings on Sunday with a tweet that read, simply: “No Collusion, No Obstruction, Complete and Total EXONERATION. KEEP AMERICA GREAT!”

Later, the president spoke to reporters at an airport in south Florida.

“It’s a shame that our country had to go through this,” Trump said. “This was an illegal takedown that failed.”

“It’s a shame that your president has had to go through this,” Trump said.

Trump has routinely declared, on social media and in public forums, that he had not colluded with Russian operatives during the 2016 election and that he had not obstructed justice.

The president’s remarks came shortly after Attorney General William Barr revealed that he had determined the Mueller’s report showed there was insufficient evidence that Trump had committed crimes.

According to Barr, the special counsel did not find that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired with Russia to influence the 2016 presidential election.

Barr noted, however, that while Mueller’s nearly two-year investigation did not provide sufficient evidence to establish that Trump had committed an obstruction of justice offense, the attorney general did say that Mueller did not exonerate the president on the matter.

Still, it was clear that Trump and his allies were prepared to use Barr’s summary of Mueller’s findings as a formidable political weapon on the 2020 presidential campaign trail.

Trump’s 2020 campaign manager Brad Parscale claimed that the president was “completely and fully vindicated” by special counsel Robert Mueller, calling the allegations of Russian collusion a “conspiracy theory” and a “sham.”

“The American people should take notice: the Democrats have lied to you, while President Trump has been hard at work building a booming economy and making you safer,” Parscale said.

Mueller’s probe, which wrapped up with the submission of his report Friday, had generated dozens of indictments, several guilty pleas, including from former Trump personal lawyer Michael Cohen, and the conviction of Trump’s former campaign chief Paul Manafort.

This is breaking news. Please check back for updates.

White House on Mueller findings: 'Total and complete exoneration' of President Trump

The White House on Sunday celebrated the release of Attorney General William Barr’s summary of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on the investigation into Russian interference during the 2016 campaign.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders put out this statement not long after Barr’s letter to Congress was released:

The Special Counsel did not find any collusion and did not find any obstruction. Attorney General Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein further determined there was no obstruction. The findings of the Department of Justice are a total and complete exoneration of the President of the United States.

Sanders’ statement comes at the beginning of what will almost certainly be a victory lap for the White House, the president’s allies and, of course, Trump himself – who has often claimed that he did not collude with Russian operatives and that he did not obstruct justice.

Barr’s letter said Mueller investigated whether Trump and the campaign conspired with Russian operatives to sway the results of the 2016 election, as well as whether the president committed obstruction of justice.

According to Barr, the special counsel did not find that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired with Russia to influence the 2016 presidential election.

When it comes to obstruction of justice, according to Barr: “The Special Counsel states that ‘while this report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him.'”

This, in turn, led it to the attorney general to determine whether Trump did obstruct justice. Barr, who received the report Friday, found that the evidence in Mueller’s report “is not sufficient to establish” that Trump committed obstruction of justice.

Trump says he is in 'no rush' to complete US-China trade deal

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday he was in no rush to complete a trade pact with China and insisted that any deal include protection for intellectual property, a major sticking point between the two sides during months of negotiations.

Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping had been expected to hold a summit at the president’s Mar-a-Lago property in Florida later this month, but no date has been set for a meeting and no in-person talks between their trade teams have been held in more than two weeks.

The president, speaking to reporters at the White House, said he thought there was a good chance a deal would be made, in part because China wanted one after suffering from U.S. tariffs on its goods.

But he acknowledged Xi may be wary of coming to a summit without an agreement in hand after seeing Trump end a separate summit in Vietnam with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un without a peace deal.

“I think President Xi saw that I’m somebody that believes in walking when the deal is not done, and you know there’s always a chance it could happen and he probably wouldn’t want that,” Trump said.

China has not made any public comment confirming Xi is considering going to meet Trump in Florida or elsewhere.

The president, who likes to emphasize his own deal-making abilities, said an agreement to end a months-long trade war could be finished ahead of a presidential meeting or completed in-person with his counterpart.

“We could do it either way. We could have the deal completed and come and sign, or we could get the deal almost completed and negotiate some of the final points. I would prefer that,” he said.

Former Trump advisor Michael Flynn's cooperation with special counsel Robert Mueller is 'complete'

President Donald Trump’s former national security advisor Michael Flynn has completed his cooperation with Robert Mueller’s investigation, said the special counsel’s office.

That development, outlined in a joint status report filed Tuesday by attorneys for Flynn and Mueller, follows a dramatic December sentencing hearing in which Judge Emmet Sullivan told Flynn “you sold your country out.”

Sullivan at the time postponed sentencing until Flynn could finish cooperating with the government and suggested that could result in a lighter sentence.

“The court likes to be in a position to say there is nothing else this defendant can do to help the United States of America,” Sullivan said.

Despite the special counsel’s view that Flynn has completed his cooperation, Flynn remains “in a position to cooperate with law enforcement authorities,” according to the status report.

Flynn may continue to cooperate with prosecutors in Virginia who are investigating his former business partners, Bijan Rafiekian and Kamil Alptekin, ahead of a trial slated to begin in July. The two men have denied charges that they unlawfully lobbied on behalf of Turkey.

But the attorneys wrote that “in the government’s view his cooperation is otherwise complete.”

Flynn is likely to face a sentence of between zero and six months in jail, according to federal guidelines. Mueller’s office has recommended that he receive the low end of that range. Flynn pleaded guilty in 2017 to lying to federal investigators about conversations he had with the Russian ambassador.

On Wednesday, Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort was sentenced to 43 months of prison time on conspiracy charges, bringing his total sentence on charges brought by the special counsel to more than seven years.

— CNBC’s Kevin Breuninger contributed to this report.

Oscars 2019: The complete list of winners and nominees for the 91st Academy Awards

After a long awards season, the big event is finally here — the 91st annual Academy Awards.

While some nominees have appeared as front runners in their categories — Rami Malek for best actor and Mahershala Ali for best supporting actor — others have been harder to predict. Namely, the biggest award of the night: best picture.

The race is tight between “Black Panther,” “BlacKkKlansman,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “The Favourite,” “Green Book,” “A Star Is Born,” “Vice” and “Roma.”

While Malek and Ali have categorically dominated the awards circuit, three different films have taken home top prizes at other awards shows. “Roma” won at a BAFTA award, while “Green Book” took home the Golden Globe for best picture (drama) and “Bohemian Rhapsody” took the Globe for best picture (comedy or musical). But just because those films have won at other ceremonies doesn’t mean they will take home the Oscar.

And the winners are…

Nissan challenges Tesla in massive shift to electric with 'complete reinterpretation' of the car

But the Leaf also will be getting company in the coming years. Le Vot also announced in Detroit that Nissan will have eight all-electric models in its global fleet by 2022. Alliance partners Renault and Mitsubishi are bringing out four more. The Japanese maker alone is forecasting it will see about 1 million BEVs annually by mid-decade.

While the Nissan brand will continue to market conventionally powered gas and diesel models for the foreseeable future, the Infiniti division is planning an even more aggressive transformation, said Christian Meunier, the recently named CEO of the Infiniti brand, which is based in Hong Kong.

Starting in 2021, all products will be electrified, he said in an interview. In the case of Infiniti, that will mean both battery-electric vehicles and what are known as serial plug-in hybrids. These have range-extending gas engines on board, but if they fire up they only serve as generators, sending power to the electric motors that actually drive the wheels.

“It will take about two to three years” to phase out conventional drivetrains, Meunier estimated.

Infiniti suffered an embarrassing moment at the auto show on Monday, when its QX Inspiration concept initially failed to roll out onto the stage, as planned, due to a problem with its electric drivetrain. Despite that setback, Meunier called the prototype “the embodiment of our future in the form a striking electric crossover.”

The QX Inspiration is loaded with upscale features, including a marble center console and a Japanese redwood roof liner. But like the less exotically finished Nissan IMs, what really matters is the actual layout of the vehicle.

A giant insurer is offering free Apple Watches to customers who meet walking goals

Hundreds of thousands of UnitedHealth customers who participate in a health rewards program can now “walk off” the cost of an Apple Watch, essentially getting a $300 version of the device for free. The program could potentially encompass millions of new customers.

Apple is increasingly in talks with insurers about getting the cost of its Apple Watch subsidized, as it moves more deeply into the health and wellness space. It held meetings in August of last year with another insurer, Aetna, to discuss ways to bring the device to its more than 20 million members.

The integration with UnitedHealthcare, which is the largest U.S. health care company, could mean a boost in sales of the Apple Watch as more people are able to buy it at an affordable price.

United Healthcare, which is part of UnitedHealth Group, covers around 50 million people. Since 2015, it has been investing in its program called “Motion,” which provides rewards to those who walk more than 10,000 steps per day. Hundreds of thousands of people are enrolled in Motion through their employer, said a United Healthcare spokesperson.

Employers can opt in by turning on the Motion program.

Their workers can request an Apple Watch (up to a Series 3), if they don’t have one already, and they pay taxes and shipping for a device. Once they receive their smartwatch, they get up to $4 per day towards the price of the watch by achieving certain activity milestones. Those who already have an Apple Watch, including the newer Series 4, can integrate it with the program to earn cash rewards for activity.

Within six months, members can essentially earn the device for free and get extra rewards on top of via their health savings account. The Apple Watch Series 3 retails for less than $300, and the maximum amount offered through the program is $540 within a six-month timeframe.

The “FIT” program requirements laid out by United Health are as follows:

Frequency: Complete 500 steps in 7 minutes an hour apart, at least six times per day;

Intensity: Complete 3,000 steps in 30 minutes, at least once per day; and

Tenacity: Complete at least 10,000 steps per day.

Those who don’t complete enough goals to earn the cost of the watch within six months will be liable for a percentage of the cost of the device.

Apple did not return a request for comment on the program.
